WHAT TO EXPECT
What to Expect :
A Professional & Clean Space
-
Our facility has a waiting area with complimentary snacks and beverages, as well as private treatment rooms to be serviced in.

-
The Electrologist will use a new pair of disposable gloves at the start of every appointment.

-
Your treatment table will be draped with clean linen at the start of your session and discarded in the dirty linen basket immediately after the session.

-
The use of medical-grade, single-use, sterile probes that are disposed of properly in the sharps container at the end each session.

-
In accordance with North Carolina’s Standards and Sterilizations Procedures, sterilized tweezers in pre-packaged pouches will be used for each session.

-
A complimentary consultation will be required for all new clients prior to being treated, regardless of if it will not be your first time having electrolysis or not. During the consultation we will discuss the basics about how electrolysis works, what to expect, the price of the session, and develop a treatment plan to achieve your goals.

You should expect the clinic to be clean and well organized to ensure a very safe and professional setting
Things you can do to prepare for your session:
-
Avoid exposure to U.V. radiation for 24 hours before the treatment.

-
You will need to keep the skin clean and well-hydrated.
A numbing agent may be applied 30 minutes - 1 hour before your treatment. Be sure your skin is clean and dry before applying and once the numbing agent is applied, cover the area with Saran Wrap, so air will not deactivate the numbing agent.
How to Prepare for your Appointment:
-
Do not allow the hair to be too long, as it will slow us down during the treatment. The appropriate hair length should be about 1/8” or 2 mm. You may shave 2-3 days before your appointment. However, please note we need enough length to be able to grab the hair with tweezers.

-
If the hair gets too long in between treatments, you can trim or shave with a single blade or electric razor. No waxing or tweezing, thread, or otherwise pull out your unwanted hair while undergoing electrolysis–EVER! Doing so can cause the follicle to become distorted and/or stimulate more hair growth.

-
-
The days leading up to and directly after your appointment, you will want to avoid the sun, which can dilate your blood vessels and cause your skin to be scaly, red, and irritated immediately after electrolysis. Your skin may also be more photo-sensitive and prone to hyperpigmentation. A hat and/or sunscreen will help you avoid any of these hindrances.
-
Daily moisturizing is especially important. It helps keep the skin hydrated and helps the probe insert easily into the follicle.

-
It would be beneficial to exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week before the appointment with a chemical exfoliant.

-
Drink plenty of water. Keeping your skin hydrated means your follicles have plenty of saline in them which is needed for the current to work well. It also minimizes discomfort during treatment.

-
Refrain from drinking caffeinated or alcoholic beverages the day of your treatment as these will dehydrate your skin. Caffeine can also increase anxiety, making your treatment less comfortable. If you must consume caffeine (to avoid withdrawal), drink the minimum necessary along with additional water to rehydrate. Avoid all CBD products 24 hours before your appointment.

-
If undergoing gender reassignment surgery, double-check with your doctor when you should have the last electrolysis treatment before your surgery. Every surgery has different requirements.
-
If you are particularly sensitive, consider taking a pain reliever of your choice (acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) one hour prior to your appointment. We also have over-the-counter (OTC) numbing cream available to purchase. However, this should be purchased prior to your appointment as it is to be applied 30-90 minutes prior to your session and covered with saran wrap to be fully activated.
The following Post-Treatment care suggestions should be followed for the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment:
-
Do not touch or scratch the treated area.
-
Do not exfoliate.

-
Avoid any friction to the treated area.

-
Apply a smoothing antiseptic product over the area that is sensitive or subjected to infection during the first 48 hours after the treatment if it feels irritated.

-
Apply ice compress, if necessary.

-
No make-up.
-
Please avoid contact with oily, perfumed, or alcohol-based products.

-
Avoid hot baths and saunas.

-
Do not visit a tanning salon.

-
Avoid exposure to U.V. radiation for 48 hours after treatment. You must also avoid exposure for 24 hours before the treatment.

-
Apply sunscreen daily (min. SPF 30+).

-
After 2-3 days or when any redness or irritation disappears, exfoliate and moisturize the area.
-
Do not use deodorant 24-48 hours after underarm treatment, depending upon irritation and redness.
-
It is preferable to wear white cotton underwear 24-48 hours after the bikini area treatment, depending upon irritation and redness.
Possible skin reactions:
-
Redness of the treated skin area.

-
Slight swelling of the tissues.

-
Warming and/or itching sensation.

-
If the treatment is done around the upper or lower lip, it is possible to activate dormant Herpes (cold sores).

-
After treatment, an isolated follicle secretion may occur.
-
Tiny scab formation (DO NOT PICK) should be viewed as the actions of healthy skin repairing itself as fast as possible. The degree to which these reactions occur differs greatly between individual patients. All people are different in the way they heal. Following post-care instructions will help to minimize these after effects.
-
The eyebrow area can be prone to bruising due to the presence of tiny blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. Although the treated area will likely appear to return to normal within a short period, full healing of the skin can take 18+ months.
